After receiving tons of complaints about the brightness on the original release, PBS released an updated set, which has received almost entirely positive reviews. This is that set.
What's different?
The levels have been brought up to full range (they were clamped in the original release), and the picture has been generally darkened. Compared to the original release, it's a better look overall, but when comparing the two side-by-side, it's clear that they overdid it and introduced some black crush. Furthermore, because the increased dynamic range in the new version requires more bitrate to preserve, and because they kept the bitrate the same on most eisodes, some have markedly lower PQ than the original release. Episodes 4-7 (Discs 3 and 4) were given higher bitrate in the new release, and they do look better than the old release at times (black crush notwithstanding).
What's the same?
Literally everything other than the main episode m2ts files (and their supporting clpi files) is identical. All the extras, intros, outros, menus, FBI warnings, etc. are the same. They'll hash check with the original torrent if you so desire.
