Used Studio Canal 2023 for video, french audio, english dub and its subs. Legacy Studio Canal (same as one Lionsgate, shared the same Blu-ray) used for additional subs, mubi and itunes (chinese traditional) used for retail srts. Criterion DVD used for commentary and named chapters, both synced to remux.
Studio Canal with its new 4k restoration is a clear improvement from the old master, even on the restoration credits it's mentioned the previous flaws, comparions speak for itself...
Now for audio, it's also a clear improvement, previous Studio Canal (Lionsgate is same) Blu-ray suffers from incorrect pitch and it's pitched too high, with PAL pitch up... Regardless, the new French audio on the 4K restoration is from a lower generation and it sounds much better and it has the right pitch, obviously it was included and set as default. English dub is the same as on previous Blu-ray, so no point in syncing others. Now for the subs, the new subs contains translation of the restoration credits which only the new 4k restoration has (can't cut these as the commentary starts before), but I don't think it's much of a problem for other subs since it's nothing special, as it's covered the main movie... The translation of the new english sub is more literal to what's been said, I decided to merge the restoration credits to the old eng sub, for the mubi srt, and also for the english dub legacy sub. For the new English dub sub, strangely was missing at least two entries, the ones at almost the end, showing what's written on the screen, the other eng sub has it, so i've merged these 2 entries to the new eng dub sub, none was set to forced because, tbh the english dub is muffled and is a terrible one, I recommend just watching the movie with the original French audio.
