Release Notes:
Used video from the GBR UHD as it had slightly better quality than the FRA UHD in some select scenes, in particular having better compression in dark parts of the frame. For the most part, the GBR and FRA have very similar video quality. The USA UHD has very poor BL compression and is clearly worse than the GBR and FRA when just comparing the BL. With the FEL baked, however, the USA is often better than both the GBR and FRA. The GER UHD is the worst of the four and has very poor compression. Because of the very low BL bitrate (42.2 Mbps) on the GER, I didn't bother baking the FEL (10.9 Mbps) for the comparison. For audio, the Dolby Digital 2.0 track from the R5 PAL DVD9 released by Carmen Video was preferred as it offered the same dialogue clarity as the 1989 Fox LaserDisc/new LPCM 2.0 track on GBR while having diegetic noise and other ambient noise less muffled. At matched loudness levels, the DVD 2.0 track offers improved clarity for sounds like rain, thunder, footsteps, clacking plates, shutting doors, and other ambient sounds. The tradeoff is that the DVD 2.0 is much noisier, varying scene by scene, so the new LPCM 2.0 track from the GBR was used for a "e;filtered"e; option as it sounds identical to the LD. In my opinion, music also sounds better and less muffled on the DVD 2.0, but this is less obvious than the improvement in audibility of diegetic sounds. The two mixes are left as 2.0 despite ostensibly being transfers of the original mono mag track as they are not true dual mono after inversion, but when listening it's clear that it is a transfer of a mono mix instead of a stereo remix. For 5.1, the upmix included with the older master was preferred to the new 5.1 mix (which is a slightly remixed transfer of the original mono mag track) as the two 2.0 options make inclusion of the new 5.1 redundant; the older 5.1 is a much more aggressive remixing. Lossless commentary from the ESP BD was included and preferred to the lossy DTS 2.0 & DD 2.0 on the new and old GBR releases, respectively. All audio and sub tracks from the older master (ITA, ESP) were edited to account for the missing 4 frames before the scene change at 38:50. All subtitle tonemapping was done with SupMover to match the hex code of the GBR UHD subtitles (#a7a7a7) and checked after with a color picker.
