Audio-wise, Criterion seems to have gotten an earlier version of the transfer, as both mixes are free from some unnecessary processing that's present on the Toho/BFI UHDs (which are identical). Both tracks have better dynamic range; mono is a nice improvement with less noise reduction, less treble roll-off and no boosted bass, sounding much more natural. Perspecta mix has less changes, mostly limited to some EQ.
Perspecta mix comes in a 5.1 container with 3 empty channels, stripped to 3.0 and encoded with DTS MAS (768k core).

Stephen Prince's commentary sourced from the old Criterion disc, as UHD had it lossy and filtered. Added captions for it from Criterion Channel. Unfortunately, the introduction had to be cut-off to fit this disc. [spoiler=Trimmed introduction]Hi, I'm Stephen Prince. I'll be talking with you about "e;Sanjuro"e;. This is the second of two films that Kurosawa made about an exceptional samurai hero played by Tashiro Mifune. The character has slightly different names in each film. In the first film, "e;Yojimbo"e;, he's known as Kuwabatake Sanjuro. And in this one, he's known as Tsubaki Sanjuro. But it is the same character and because "e;Yojimbo"e; was so enormously popular and because everybody loved seeing Mifune in the role Toho studio encouraged Kurosawa would make a companion picture.[/spoiler]
Like with Yojimbo, BFI didn't reuse thier old translation on this release, opting for Sanjuro has a brand new translation, differing from Criterion's (which they borrowed for Yojimbo). Included all three options. Added missing periods to the 2014 BFI track.
