Title: Specimen: Female (1971)
- A Review
The film "Specimen: Female" revolves around a socially awkward man who decides to capture a woman after luring her with an anti-war petition. He brings her to his home, where he ties her to a kitchen table and assaults her. A peculiar interlude occurs while the woman is restrained in a van, showcasing a romantic moment between her and another man, rendered beautifully through creative cinematography. The purpose and significance of this scene remain ambiguous. As the film progresses, it diverges from its initial premise. The protagonist joins a friend at an auto body shop, where they become distracted by a blonde woman. Eventually, he captures her as well, leading to a violent scene that lacks narrative context. The two men then abduct both women and retreat to another room, leaving the women to engage in a lesbian encounter, which further detracts from any realism established earlier in the film. The film culminates in a generic and abrupt ending, failing to develop any coherent storyline or character arcs. Despite its intriguing premise and visually appealing opening credits, the film does not fulfill its potential and is critiqued for its lack of structure and depth. While it includes various sexual acts, the execution leaves much to be desired, resulting in a disappointing viewing experience. The film is produced by Vinegar Syndrome and features actors Terri Johnson, Carmen Olivera, and Jason Yukon.
