Alexa, a political intern, arrives at the home of her political idol, Eleanore Cadwin, for a special meeting. Eleanore greets her warmly, and Alexa expresses her admiration for Eleanore's political mission and her desire to support her campaign, particularly in advocating for women's representation in politics. During the meeting, Eleanore and her husband, Mel, reveal their intention to end their marriage of convenience and propose a scandal involving Mel having an affair with another woman. They plan to leverage this fabricated scandal to enhance Eleanore's political appeal, particularly among female voters, by portraying her as a figure overcoming adversity. Initially shocked and disgusted, Alexa contemplates leaving but is persuaded by Eleanore's compelling argument that participating in the scheme could significantly impact Eleanore's campaign and, by extension, the lives of citizens. Eleanore convinces Alexa that her portrayal as a villain in the public eye would be a necessary sacrifice for the greater good. Ultimately, Alexa agrees to the plan, leading to an intimate encounter with Mel that is filmed for the purpose of creating a scandalous video intended to be leaked publicly.
