This groundbreaking US TV series broke new ground for TV on cable channels. Inspired by the LAPD Rampart Division scandal, the series' portrayal of Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis) and his gang task force injected new life in the aging police procedural drama. Mackey and his crew are depicted both as a black hats who break the law they swore to uphold and white hats who can stop gang violence and broker truce by using their off-the-book methods of intimidation and coercion. Even 16 years after the series first aired, it still holds up and even puts to shame TV series that still are being produced on network TV.
