Thomas & Friends is a British children's television series, which had its first broadcast on the ITV network on 9 October 1984. It is based on The Railway Series of books by the Reverend Wilbert Awdry and his son, Christopher Awdry. These books deal with the adventures of a group of anthropomorphised locomotives and road vehicles who live on the fictional Island of Sodor. The books were based on stories Wilbert told to entertain his son, Christopher during his recovery from measles. From Series one to four, many of the stories are based on events from Awdry's personal experience.

At the time, it was unknown what the cancelled eight episodes were about, but according to Sodor Island Fansite/Forums, one of the episodes would have been about Rosie. Then, in March 2021, producer Ian McCue confirmed that the episodes Confusion Without Delay, Samson and the Fireworks (originally Oliver's Fear of Fireworks), Thomas' Animal Ark, Chucklesome Trucks, and Nia and the Unfriendly Elephant were all originally written for the twenty-first series, however they were pushed back to the twenty-second, twenty-third, and twenty-fourth series respectively. He has also stated the The Christmas Coffeepot and Over the Hill were to be exclusive to the Tinsel on the Tracks DVD, hence why they weren't broadcast with the rest of the twentieth series, and were instead broadcast with twenty-first series. / / Thomas & Friends owned by Hit/Mattel Creations.
